What is OSRM™?

OSRM™ is an interactive, entertaining and educational training program to teach important safety skills in general aviation. OSRM™ stands for Online Single-pilot Resource Management, or Online SRM. Single-pilot resource management (SRM) encompases important safety skills and strategies that aren’t covered in ground school. Learn more about OSRM™ on the About OSRM™ page.

How do I sign up for OSRM™? What is Flintbox?

To sign up, simply purchase an account through Flintbox with any major credit card and you will receive your login information within 24 hours, Monday through Friday. Flintbox was created by Canadian universities as an online marketplace for professors' teaching tools and researchers' innovations.

Further purchase instructions are available on the Purchase page. Once you have received your username and password, visit the Login page to begin the OSRM™ training program.

Why can't I access the training program? What is Flash?

If you have already purchased an account and have been issued a username and password, then you may not have a current version of Adobe Flash Player, often called just "Flash®". Flash® enables organizations and individuals to build and deliver great digital experiences to their end users. We recommend users access OSRM™ with the latest version of Flash® and a high-speed internet connection. Visit the Adobe Flash Player Download Center to install the latest version.

The window I have open says 'loading'but appears to be stuck.

We recommend accessing OSRM™ with a high-speed internet connection. If you have entered the OSRM™ training program and clicked on a link to enter any of the Modules, the next thing that will happen is a new window will open and the Flash® player will begin to load. This may take a few seconds or a few minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection. Many things can affect the speed of your connection, including: you may be using a slow internet connection (satellite internet is generally very slow and old cables can cause problems); you may have many programs running in the background that use an internet connection (file sharing programs like BitTorrent or Kazaa can often cause extreme slowness); or you may even have a virus taking up a lot of resources (run your Anti-Virus software to fix this problem).

If you have been waiting for over 60 seconds and don't believe you have a slow internet connection, first try reloading the page by closing the pop-up window and clicking on the link to Module 1, 2 or 3 one more time. If you are still stuck, you may not have the latest version of Flash®. Read the above FAQ "Why can't I access the training program? What is Flash?" for instructions on downloading the latest version.

I closed OSRM™ in the middle of a Module. How do I return to where I left off?

OSRM™ tracks your progress so that when you restart, you will carry on from where you left off! At any point in any module you may click on the button in the top right corner labeled "Index" to jump to another segment. You can also pause the program, or move forwards and backwards by using the controls in the bottom right hand corner. You must complete the module and quiz (scoring 80% or higher) in order to proceed to the next module.

Can flight schools offer OSRM™ to their students?

Absolutely! Offering OSRM™ at your flight school will save you money and time. And because it is created by an experienced pilot and University professor with expertise in online learning and SRM, it will also ensure that your students experience a high-quality and entertaining learning experience. OSRM™ will quickly become a key member of your instructional team.
